Standby generator installation
Power outages come back every winter in Quebec. A properly installed generator keeps the essentials running, heating, refrigerator, lighting, even when you are not home.
Why a generator
In winter, an outage is not a nuisance. It is an emergency.
At minus twenty degrees, a few hours without heat or a freezer costs dearly, in damage and in stress. An automatic standby generator turns an outage into a non-event: it starts on its own, before you even notice.
Plan my installationWhat we keep running during an outage
- Heating and heat pump
- Refrigerator and freezer
- Essential lighting
- Security system and phone line
- Gas fireplace (blower)
- TV and internet outlet
The exact list is decided with you, based on the generator size and the priority circuits in your home.
Two solutions
Portable with a transfer inlet, or automatic and turnkey.
Transfer inlet
We install an exterior inlet connected to a manual transfer panel. You plug in your portable generator yourself when the grid goes down. Simple, reliable, affordable.
Automatic standby generator
It starts on its own a few seconds after the outage, even if you are not home, and switches back to the grid when power returns. Connected to natural gas or propane, it monitors itself.
Not sure which way to go? We compare both options with your home's numbers during the visit, power needs, available fuel, budget.

Frequently asked questions
Generators: what people ask us.
What size generator do I need?
For the essentials, 9 to 12 kW is often enough; for the whole house, 18 to 22 kW. We do the calculation with you.
Automatic generator or generator inlet?
The transfer inlet is the budget-friendly option with a portable generator; the automatic generator is the turnkey solution.
What maintenance is required?
Annual maintenance (oil, filter, automatic test) is recommended; we can set that up for you.
Will the generator run while I am away?
Yes, that is its main strength. It starts automatically a few seconds after the outage and switches back to the grid when power returns.
Natural gas or propane?
Natural gas is convenient if you have access to it (no refilling); propane suits areas without natural gas. We help you choose based on your situation.
How long does installation take?
The installation itself takes one to two days, plus generator delivery time (allow a few weeks in season).
